All kinds of awesome at the @kelownafarmersmarket today - what a different a week makes! From garlic greens, nettles and watercress to Bella Stella Organic Yoghurt made with the milk from Vale Farm’s grass fed cows. I love when my farmers write my receipts on the random things (my accountant probably doesn’t feel the same way, but rules need to change when it comes to supporting local and small business) #explorekelowna #popup #farmersmarket #supportsmallbusiness #slowfood #dairy
This Sunday, I take over @doja.life for my first pop up of the year. My menu inspired by doing things differently (I pretty much can be me). So, meet Shannon @sourdoughschoolhouse. Shannon and Scott have been eating my food for many many years and they even followed me to my first ever ‘Sourced’ pop up last year. Shannon took a baking class with Monika from Okanagan Grocery and was so inspired that she’s now has her own sourdough baking school. You don’t have to be formally trained to cook or teach. Shannon has supported me so I wanted to support her - I’m proud to be telling your story this Sunday and using your beautiful sourdough for the first course! 3 tickets left, link in bio #explorekelowna #sourdough #bread #baking #food #photooftheday #popup
Forth course for #PressForProgress was by @goldmedalplates 2016 winner and @topchefcanada 2018 contender @chefjinhee from @eatforeign in Calgary. This dish bought together Calgary and the Okanagan - Okanagan Cherry Braised Alberta Veal Cheek, Sweet Potato, King Oyster Mushroom, Mandu (like a Korean tortellini) paired with 2015 @levieuxpin Syrah Cuvée Classique. This little lady is doing amazing things to break down stereotypes and take ‘Asian’ food to new places. Thanks for saying yes and making this little person’s wish come true #Alberta #topchefcanada #teamjinhee #korea #meat #explorekelowna #gastroart #wine #yyc 📷 @thuytran.photography
Tomorrow is judgement day for our BC and Canadian wine industry - we’ll be waking up to some big news. Canada will decide on the Comeau Case to allow or continue to restrict free trade across provincial borders. Technically it’s illegal to ship wines across the country (there are legal loopholes though). Personally, this doesn’t make sense when it should be about celebrating the goods and economy of Canada. I am proud to support our BC wine industry and anyone in the Okanagan is directly effected by this (if you know about it or not). So will the Supreme Court finally free our grapes? #freemygrapes #explorekelowna #canada #wine #smallbusiness #explorebc #foodandwine
Third course for #PressForProgress was inspired by Alberta’s cold pantry by Chef @erinelizabethpix of Nicole Gourmet by @chefngomes. Smoked Agria Potato and Chive Gnocchi, Grizzly Aged Gouda, Charred Onion and Carrot Soubise paired with 2016 Moraine Winery Pinot Noir. Erin and I have known each other for many years and was the only Albertan on the lineup to have dined at Poppadoms. Thanks for letting me cook with you, bud 📷 @thuytran.photography #foodporn #alberta #farmersmarket #explorekelowna #vegetarian #eatclean
